Dedicated to the art of English instruction with a focus on accent reduction, I find satisfaction in equipping students with the tools necessary for clear communication. Witnessing the transformation of their language proficiency, particularly during crucial moments such as job and school entrance interviews; crucial conversations with their clients and leadership; or final presentations, is a source of great joy for me.
My travels and studies in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese have given me firsthand insight into the challenges of learning a second or third language. Armed with a BA in Speech and Language Pathology (SLP) and a BA in Chinese Language and Culture from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and 14 years experience working with English learning populations, I bring a unique and comprehensive skill set to my coaching practice.
As a certified BA SLP, I approach accent reduction as a nuanced art. I believe that having an accent is natural and crucial to cultural identity. I also believe that the ability to control its presence is a valuable asset. Just like actors adopting accents for film roles, I guide my students in mastering American English fluidly, enabling them to switch it on or off as needed in their professional lives.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I am a mother of four daughters and an avid writer, writing poetry and prose for my blog during my leisure time. I also volunteer twice a week to teach English here in Detroit. Having so much happening often prompts others to comment, “Wow, you have your hands full!"—to which I proudly respond, “Yes, full of good things!”
